Despite Democratic concerns over his qualifications, and whether or not he would do the bidding for President Donald Trump, the Senate confirmed Kash Patel as FBI director.

Sens. Susan Collins of Maine and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska were the two Republican holdouts.

Patel, who is a Trump supporter and has criticized the FBI, inherits an FBI in turmoil. Over the past month, the Justice Department forced senior bureau officials out and demanded the names of thousands of agents who participated in investigations related to the Jan. 6, 2019 riots on the U.S. Capitol.

He wrote on X, “The American people deserve an FBI which is transparent, accountable and committed to justice. “

He said: “My mission as director is clear: Let the good cops remain good cops — to restore trust in FBI. “
