Russia Escalates Tensions, Mocks US with Massive Ukraine Drone Attack

The Russian drone attack that took place hours after the peace talks in Saudi Arabia shows Moscow “mocking” America. The drones of President Vladimir Putin’s forces have caused a widespread power outage in Odesa. This has left most of the city’s residents without heat, hot water, or electricity.

The meeting took place in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday between Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Sergey Lavrov. They discussed improving relations and putting an end to the conflict in Ukraine.

The Open Source Intelligence Monitor on X has condemned the latest Russian attack.

“Less than 24 hours after this morning’s negotiations between U.S. and Russian Officials in Saudi Arabia, Russia tonight has launched one of its largest drone attacks in recent months against Odesa and other Cities across Ukraine; with over 150 Iranian-produced drones targeting energy infrastructure and other Ukrainian sensitive sites. They are mocking us,” OSINTdefender posted Tuesday night on X.

The Ukrainian military reported Wednesday that Russia had launched 167 drones as well as two missiles in overnight attacks.

It said that 106 drones were shot down and 56 others failed to reach their target, possibly due to electronic countermeasures. However, it did not specify what happened to the five remaining drones.

The Mayor of Odesa confirmed that his city had been affected by the strikes.

On the Telegram app, Mayor GennadiyTrukhanov wrote, “Hospitals were without heat, as well as clinics and sites of social infrastructure.” He described the Odesa strike as “massive.”

Odesa, and especially the facilities at the three ports around the city, has been the target of Russian airstrikes in the war that has lasted for nearly three years.

Trukhanov shared pictures of damaged buildings and windows on Telegram. He did not mention any casualties but said that experts were assessing damage.

A regional official reported that Russian drones hit a residential apartment building in Dolynska, central Ukraine. The attack injured a mother, and her two children, and forced the evacuation of 38 apartments.

Andriy Rakovych, Kirovohrad’s Governor, wrote on Telegram: “A difficult evening for the Kirovohrad Region.” “An enemy aerial drone struck a highrise building in Dolynska.”

Raikovych posted pictures of flames shooting out of high-rise apartment windows.
