Police announced Saturday that two people were charged with the death of Army soldier Katia Duenas Aguilar.
Aguilar, a first-class private who was stationed in Fort Campbell, Kentucky, was found dead in a Clarksville, Tennessee residence on May 18, 2024.
According to an autopsy, she was found to have 68 stab injuries, most of which were to her neck.
Aguilar was an information technology specialist with the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade.
The police announced that Sofia Rodas (35), had been charged on Saturday with murder in the first degree and tampering of evidence. Reynaldo Cruz Salinas, Aguilar’s 40-year-old husband, was charged by police with tampering evidence.
Police said that both Rodas and Cruz were already in federal custody for unrelated charges when they were indicted.
On Friday, they were taken to Montgomery County Jail and extradited to Clarksville.
Rodas and Cruz did not appear to have retained attorneys for the Clarksville charges.
The police stated, “This case is still an active and open investigation, and it’s now waiting for prosecution. At this time, there are no further details that can be released to the public.”
The Army Criminal Investigation Division, or CID, assisted in the investigation.
