Will ICE Use Shipping Containers to Detain Deportees?

Officials from the Trump administration are reportedly in talks with an Arizona shipping container company to provide temporary space for illegal migrants to be deported.

Semafor reported that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Phoenix-based Willscot were discussing the lease of mobile structures for deportees.

The outlet stated that a few containers could also be used as medical or administrative space in migrant detention centers.

ICE could house some aliens in containers at facilities near the U.S.-Mexico border, or at Guantanamo, Cuba, where Donald Trump plans to send up 30,000 criminal migrants.

NBC News reported that the majority of immigrants who are sent to Guantanamo as part of Trump’s plan will be temporarily held in tent camps before they’re transported back to their country or a country that has agreed to accept them.

A U.S. official announced that the first U.S. Military flight to deport illegal aliens from the United States was scheduled to depart on Tuesday.

DHS informed Semafor on Thursday that a second flight, carrying 13 “highly dangerous criminal aliens”, arrived at the base.

These were the first steps of what will be an increase in the number of migrants detained at the Navy base in Cuba. The base was used for many years to hold foreigners suspected to have been involved in the 9/11 attacks.

CBS News reported that detention facilities in the Department of Homeland Security’s network of county jails and for-profit prisons were at 109% of their capacity. The agency held close to 42,000 migrant prisoners, despite its 38,521-bed capacity on paper.

Willscot is a major player in the modular office market. Willscot’s products are often used for construction site storage or office space.

The modular offices can be outfitted with restroom facilities and functionally all support air conditioning, according to Willscot.
