Attorney General Pam Bondi announced Thursday that three suspects who were arrested for using high-powered guns to violently destroy Tesla properties may face up to 20 years in prison as well as the full force of the law. They are accused of waging “a wave of domestic terrorism” by destroying Tesla properties.
Bondi said in a Department of Justice statement, “The days of committing a crime without consequence are over. Let this be a warning. If you join the wave of domestic terrorist attacks against Tesla properties, you will face jail time from the Department of Justice.”
Bondi didn’t name the defendants. All of them are accused of using Molotov cocktails to ignite Tesla cars and charging stations in protest against Elon Musk and his attempts to shrink the federal Government.
In recent weeks, vandals have targeted Tesla dealerships and vehicles in multiple cities. The New York Times reported that no serious injuries had yet been reported.
Bondi noted that three arrests had been made.
The Attorney General did not specify the charges that could be brought against three defendants as well as others.
Trump has also labeled the growing vandalism against Tesla as “domestic terror” and said those who target Musk’s company “are going to go through hell.”
Bondi’s comments come after Republicans in Congress have pressed her to call the increasing attacks domestic terrorism.
The attacks against Tesla’s facilities continue to increase.
Five Tesla vehicles were damaged in an attack on a Las Vegas Tesla factory Tuesday. Local authorities said the attack was targeted.
Police in Buffalo Grove arrested a 26-year-old woman on Monday for allegedly spray painting anti-Musk graffiti on the windows of an automobile dealership.
On Monday in San Diego, vandals defaced a dealership with slogans and swastikas.
According to a post on Facebook from the FBI field office in Kansas City, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and the FBI are collaborating with the local police after Cybertrucks at a Tesla dealer were vandalized.
In Tigard, Oregon last week, a gunman fired at least five shots into a Tesla dealership. The attacker damaged the store’s windows and cars.
