Elon Musk Plots $1 Trillion Cuts with House DOGE Panel in Secret Meeting

Elon Musk spoke with a group of House Republicans on Wednesday night. He discussed ways to save money to eliminate as much as $1 trillion in wasteful government spending, according to people who were familiar with the conversation.

A lawmaker who attended the meeting said, “They are confident that they will get $1 trillion.” “Now, we’ll see, right?”

A GOP legislator said that some questions were asked about the ability of other government agencies, such as the Treasury Department, to “do” the things Musk has described. The lawmaker stated that Musk said, “We are going to help them.”

Musk, according to multiple sources, met for 45 minutes with Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), the chairperson of the House DOGE Subcommittee, before meeting the House GOP conference.

Musk has been cited by several people as pointing out areas in which the government can be more efficient. One example is an audit to see how many people who are dead were removed from some federal programs like Social Security but had still received taxpayer money for unemployment benefits or other programs.

Rep. Michael Cloud (R-Texas), a member in the subcommittee, said, “There’s a lot of cross-referencing of databases to make sure they are talking with each other.”

The idea of a congressional cancellation package, according to two lawmakers who attended the meeting, was also floated. This is a way for Republicans and Democrats to claw back government overspending.

Congress is given the authority to cancel some government expenditures.

This is also one of the rare cases in which the Senate needs only 51 votes, not 60. That means Senate Republicans could pass the bill without Democratic support.

Greene told reporters that he had confirmed his meeting with the journalists, but he did not speak of any congressional budget authority.

We learned so much from Elon Musk’s team and my DOGE Committee during our very long meeting. Greene stated that the collaboration will be great and must happen.

Steve Davis was also present during both Musk’s House meetings.

Musk then had a larger discussion with House Republicans, where he talked for about 15 minutes before taking questions.

Reporters were told that Rep. Brandon Gill (R-Texas), who also sits on the DOGE Subcommittee, was gaining a better understanding of what Elon is up to and strategizing with him about how they can work together.

Rep. Mike Haridopolos (R-Fla.), said, “Systematically, there was no checking to ensure that taxpayer dollars were being spent correctly.”

Musk said that he did not mention other financial battles in Congress. Musk was “just trying to highlight what they were finding in a short period and how little accountability there is in our operating system.”

“It made me laugh, and it made me sick all at the same time,” Rep. Dan Meuser, R-Pa., said. “The level of waste and what they are finding is mindblowing.”

Rep. Ralph Norman (R-SC) said Musk is “just getting going.”

He just said, “I am investigating, and I’ve found things you can’t argue with.” He admitted to making mistakes, and he would correct them. However, his goal was to find out where the tax money went. Norman told us to let the chips fall as they may.

Some House Republicans are facing contentious town halls or demonstrations in their districts related to Musk or DOGE. Fox News Digital reported that GOP legislators were frustrated by the fact they weren’t always informed about Musk’s projects.

Derrick Van Orden (R-Wis.) told reporters that he voiced the same concerns during the meeting behind closed doors. Musk was open to these issues, Van Orden said.

I spoke with Elon about it specifically. Our veterans and farmers are also involved. Van Orden explained that there is a great deal of anxiety right now because people do not understand what’s happening. “And I made it very clear that the veterans’ community has concerns.” “And Mr. Musk made it very clear that there will be no reduction in the benefits that our veterans have earned.”

Musk’s back-to-back House meeting came just a few days after he met with Senate Republicans at a similar private event.
