Norway Defies Boycott Calls, Keeps Supplying Fuel to US Navy

Norway has made it clear that it will continue to supply fuel to U.S. Navy vessels after a private supplier of marine fuel threatened to boycott America in response to the deteriorating U.S. Ukraine relations.

We have read reports that raise concerns over the support provided to U.S. Navy ships in Norway. According to Reuters, Norway’s Defense Minister Tore Sandvik made a Sunday statement that this was not the Norwegian government’s policy.

This statement follows a social media post by privately owned Norwegian fuel supplier Haltbakk Bunkers, who threatened to boycott the U.S. Navy as a response to Donald Trump’s and Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s heated Oval Office discussion.

“Huge credit to the president of Ukraine restraining himself and for keeping calm even though USA put on a backstabbing TV show. It made us sick… No Fuel to Americans!,” the company said in a Facebook post that has since been deleted.

Gunnar Grant, the CEO of the company, confirmed in the Norwegian paper VG his decision to not supply the U.S. According to Reuters, the military will not be receiving Haltbakk Bunkers’ products. However, the company acknowledged that this decision would have a symbolic impact since Haltbakk Bunkers has no fixed contract with the U.S.

This comes following a heated discussion in the Oval Office between Trump, Zelenskyy, and Vice President JD Vance on Friday. Vance had accused Zelenskyy of “disrespecting” Trump at the White House.

Vance said to Zelenskyy, “I think that it is disrespectful of you to enter the Oval Office and try to argue this before the American media. You are forcing your conscripts onto the frontlines because of a lack of manpower. You should thank the President for bringing this into our country.”

Trump joined in the fight after Zelenskyy said that “in the near future, the U.S. will feel the effects of the war,” an argument that the American leader didn’t appreciate.

“You don’t know that,” Trump responded. “Don’t tell us what we’re going to feel. We’re trying to solve a problem. Don’t tell us what we’re going to feel.”

Some expressed concern about the exchange, not just Trump’s relationship with European Allies but also Trump’s apparent commitment to Ukraine’s war effort.

Norway, an ally of NATO, has made it clear that they have no intention to follow through on the threat to stop the U.S. Military.

“American forces will continue to receive the supply and support they require from Norway,” Sandvik said.
