Former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo faces a new Democratic opponent in his bid for the position of New York City mayor to replace Eric Adams, reports say.
New York City Council speaker Adrienne Adams (64) will launch her official campaign at a rally this weekend.
Adams will be expected to petition for ballot access as soon as the Democratic Primary is just four months from now.
Adams told the media that New Yorkers could not afford to live there and that City Hall was “in chaos.” He also claimed that Donald Trump “was corrupting the independence of our city.”

It’s time for us to get up. Adams stated in a statement shared first with Politico that he had never intended to run for mayor, but he was not abandoning New York City.
Adams was first elected to the City Council in 2017. Five years later, he became the first Black speaker of the council.
Adams, the most prominent figure in politics, is now challenging former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, the leading candidate. Andrew Cuomo is the front-runner to replace NYC Mayor Eric Adams.
Cuomo’s resignation came in 2021 after the Attorney General of New York released a report that concluded he sexually harassed more than a dozen females.

Cuomo apologized to the women for “offending” them with comments he claimed were meant as collegial remarks. He admitted that at times he was “too familiar,” but denied ever touching someone inappropriately.
Eric Adams, the mayor of New York City, was charged with federal corruption in September. The newly appointed Justice Department officials have asked the court to dismiss the case so that Adams can assist the federal government in its immigration crackdown.
