Putin Urges China, North Korea to Join Ukraine Peace Talks

Vladimir Putin suggested that China and North Korea could join the ceasefire negotiations to end the conflict.

Putin said in Murmansk that the peace efforts are ongoing and other countries can also contribute to the negotiations.

Putin said that the BRICS nations include the United States of America, India, Brazil, and South Africa.

“And many others, for example, including the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea,” he said, using North Korea’s official name. BRICS is an economic collective that includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.

Putin made his comments at a moment when Russia and Ukraine had stopped attacking one another’s infrastructure, but other attacks continued. This left the peace talks in a shaky state. Putin agreed with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on a partial ceasefire last week.

China played a very different role in Russia’s war efforts. China has been trying to walk a fine line diplomatically ever since Russia invaded Ukraine on February 20, 2022.

North Korea has been actively participating in the war effort. North Korea added 3,000 more troops to the 12,000 it sent to Russia in October. South Korea’s intelligence reports that North Korea is continuing to send missiles, artillery, and ammunition to support Putin’s war efforts.

Putin said that Zelenskyy should be replaced with someone who was approved by all nations. Putin called the Ukrainian president illegitimate for canceling elections and ruling under martial law.
