Trump Envoy: Putin Not Seeking European Conquest​

The Special Envoy of President Donald Trump says that he does not believe Russian President Vladimir Putin intends to invade Europe.

Steve Witkoff, the Envoy to Russia for the United Nations (UN), made the statement to Fox on Sunday. He was commenting about Putin’s motivations at a “larger level”.

Now I have been asked what my opinion is about the motivations of President Putin on a large scale. Witkoff stated that she did not believe that Putin wanted to conquer all of Europe.

This is an entirely different scenario than World War II. He added that there was no NATO. In this respect, I take his word for it.

Witkoff will meet with the Ukrainian and Russian delegations in Saudi Arabia to discuss an indirect ceasefire. Trump hopes that his administration can mediate for a bigger peace agreement.

I think you will see some progress in Saudi Arabia on Monday, especially regarding a Black Sea truce on vessels between the two countries. “You’ll then naturally move to a full-on firing ceasefire,” he said on Sunday.

Dmitry Peskov, the Moscow spokesperson, said that many obstacles could still prevent a peaceful settlement.

He told journalists this weekend, “We are just at the start of this journey.”

Overnight on Sunday night, Russia launched an extensive drone strike against Kyiv as well as other large cities in Ukraine. This attack highlighted how much work remains before any peace deal can be reached.

Ukraine’s Air Force says that 147 drones were involved in the Russian attack, of which 97 were destroyed and another 25 failed to reach its targets.

On Sunday, Ukrainians surveyed the damage to their houses and neighborhoods in Kyiv. The upcoming talks on a ceasefire were criticized by many, who pointed to the destroyed homes that were the result of the drone attacks, saying they were indicative of Russia’s real intentions.
