US Sends More B-2 Bombers to Diego Garcia—Is a Strike Imminent?

Reports from TWZ indicate that the U.S. has increased its deployment of B-2 Spirit strategic aircraft to Diego Garcia, one of the most important military outposts in the Indian Ocean. This could be an indication of possible air strikes against Houthi targets in Yemen.

The report comes just two days after U.S. Airstrikes targeted Yemen’s Houthi Rebels, which pounded across the country until early Tuesday morning. According to the group, one attack in the capital claimed the lives of at least two people while wounding more than a dozen others.

As of today, the American strikes against the rebels who pose a threat to Israel and maritime trade are in their 10th consecutive day. The strikes are part of an American campaign led by President Donald Trump to target the rebels while also putting pressure on Iran, which is the main supporter of the Houthis.

TWZ reports that more than 30 percent of the U.S. Air Force B-20 bombers at Whiteman Air Force Base, Missouri, were sent to Diego Garcia.

Air Force Global Strike Command told TWZ that a B-2 Spirit Bomber had arrived at Hickam Air Force Base today. This was in response to a question about the recent B-2 movements throughout the Indo-Pacific and the emergency in-flight.

AFGSC continued, “U.S. Strategic Command and its components conduct global operations routinely in coordination with participating U.S. Government agencies, other combatant command services and other combatant commands to deterrence, detect and defeat, if needed, strategic attacks against the United States. To preserve operational security, we don’t discuss specifics about exercises or operations.”
