Nike, the athletic apparel giant, is facing backlash for a billboard at the London Marathon that read “Never Again. Until Next Year.” Now, let’s break this down logically.
First, it’s objectively clear that Nike intended to motivate runners, not to invoke the Holocaust or Hamas. The left, in their infinite wisdom, has decided to conflate a simple marketing slogan with one of history’s greatest atrocities. This is a fundamental misunderstanding of context and intent.
Let’s say, for the sake of argument, that Nike deliberately chose this phrase to offend Jews and trivialize the Holocaust. If that were true, why would a major corporation risk alienating a significant portion of its customer base? It’s economically illogical. The idea that Nike would intentionally reference the Holocaust or Hamas is absurd on its face.
The vast majority of people seeing this ad would interpret it in its intended context: marathon running. The left claims this is insensitive because it appeared three days after Yom HaShoah. But by that logic, should we ban all uses of the phrase “never again” in perpetuity? That’s not how language works in a free society.
If we accept the premise that “never again” can only ever refer to the Holocaust, we’re essentially granting ownership of a common phrase to a single historical event. This is a slippery slope that necessarily leads to the erosion of free speech – a fundamental pillar of Western civilization.
The left’s position on this issue is, frankly, ridiculous. They’re more concerned with policing language than addressing actual antisemitism. Where was this level of outrage when Hamas attacked Israel on October 7th? The hypocrisy is palpable.
In conclusion, context matters. Facts don’t care about your feelings, and the facts about this Nike ad are clear. It was a marketing campaign for a sporting event, not a commentary on geopolitics or history. Those demanding apologies or firings over this non-issue are engaging in performative outrage that does nothing to combat actual antisemitism or protect Jewish lives.
