Georgia Democrats opted for the third option after being unable to vote on a bill that they deemed unsavory. The bill would have prohibited spending money on transgender prisoner care.
Dozens of House Democrats chanted “Go for a stroll!” as they echoed the golden dome at the State Capitol. The blizzard of transgender-targeting bills had them exhausted.
Senate Bill 185 prohibits the state prisons from spending money on “sex reassignment surgery,” hormone replacement therapy, or other “surgeries intended to alter appearances of primary or second sexual traits.”
The Governor received the measure after a vote of 100-2.

Georgia was cautious in its handling of transgender issues until this year. Another Republican-led state has gone further.
Georgia legislators have passed a 2022 law that allows the state high school athletic federation of Georgia to ban transgender high school girls from participating in sports.

House Speaker Jon Burns, and the Lt. Governor. Burt Jones has made it his priority to ban participation of transgenders in high school sports. Senate Bill 1 passed.
Georgia Republicans enacted a law prohibiting gender-confirming surgery for anyone younger than 18 in 2023. The Republicans allowed those already receiving hormone therapy to continue, as well as those taking medications that prevent puberty.
Senate Republicans are trying to ban hormone treatment for anyone under the age of 18. House members have reduced Senate Bill 30 so that it only allows access to drugs with two doctors’ approval. The bill is not clear as to what will happen when the session ends on Friday.
Georgia has set the standard for anti-transgender laws. A bill prohibits Medicaid and state health insurance from covering gender transitioning. Blake Tillery is a Vidalia Republican who may run for office in the state of Georgia in 2026. The measure is still awaiting approval.
The Movement Advancement Project is an LGBTQ rights organization that claims Medicaid does not cover transgender care in at least fourteen states. They claim Medicaid only covers transgender care in ten states.
Georgia granted transgender benefits to employees, Medicaid recipients, and prisoners. These measures are alleged by Republicans to violate the U.S. Constitution, as well as legally binding agreements that were made at the time these suits were settled. Republicans claim that rewriting state laws will allow for these settlements to be annulled.

Tanya Miller attacked Republicans before the walkout on the prison care Bill. Tanya Miller stated that only 5 prisoners in the State were seeking treatment for gender transformation.
What’s wrong? Miller said: Why are they so obsessed with the underwear and pants of transgender people, their bedrooms, their medical robes, and what they tell their doctors? They also seem to be preoccupied with how they treat their family and interact with them in their bedroom.
Chuck Efstration from Mulberry is the Republican majority leader of the House. He said “the Democrats walkout” represents “support for taxpayer funded sexchange surgery for state prisons.”
In many states, the issue of transgender individuals has been raised.
A California committee on Tuesday blocked bills that would have limited the participation of transgender athletes and sportswomen. Gavin Newsom, the Democratic Governor of California, had said it was unfair to allow transgender athletes to compete in sports that match their gender identities.
The Nevada High School Athletic Federation has voted to limit the sports that students can participate in based on their birth gender.
Colorado is reviewing a bill that would make calling transgender people by their name or gender before they’ve made the transition illegal.
Carolyn Hugley is a Columbus Democrat and House Minority leader. She called Georgia Republicans’ actions “political theatre”.
