Israel Defense Forces have deployed another division in the Gaza Strip after overnight strikes on the southern part of the enclave. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz stated on Wednesday morning that the “Operation Strength and Sword” is expanding.
He said that Israeli forces would move to secure larger areas and reinforce buffer zones along the border to weaken terrorist infrastructure, pressure local communities, and support the return of the hostages.
The IDF announced that on Wednesday, they had killed a terrorist who was armed and approached the fence in southern Gaza.
According to the military, the suspect was a threat and was shot just before he reached the fence. There were no Israeli injuries reported.
According to Israel’s Channel 12 News, the 36th Division of the IDF is currently operating between Khan Yunis and Rafah in a relatively unpopulated area.
The IDF announced an evacuation order on Monday for the Rafah region, indicating a major intensification of its military campaign after the collapse of a truce and the resumption of operations against Hamas.
The military also issued evacuation warnings for Beit Haun, Beit Lhia, and Sheikh Zayed in the northern Gaza Strip.
Sderot, Israel’s largest city, was alerted to rocket launches from Gaza on Tuesday morning. The IDF confirmed that the projectile was intercepted and responded by issuing evacuation notices as well as precision strikes on the launch site.
Additional U.S. Forces in the Middle East
The U.S. Military announced on Tuesday that it was deploying additional air assets in the Middle East as a response to increasing tensions and threats against American forces in this region. U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) stated that the move was intended to bolster regional deterrence and force protection.
Officials did not specify how many or what types of aircraft were involved in the new deployment. The decision was made after repeated attacks on U.S. personnel by terrorist groups backed by Iran in Iraq and Syria. There were also concerns about a potential spillover from the Gaza conflict.
CENTCOM stressed that the deployment was defensive and part of a broader effort to ensure the safety and stability of U.S. Forces across the region.
