The left’s reaction to Trump’s papal comments is a perfect encapsulation of their inability to distinguish between humor and reality, and their pathological need to twist every statement into some kind of constitutional crisis.
Trump, when asked about the next Pope, jokingly said he’d like the job. This is what we call “humor”. It’s a concept the left seems increasingly unfamiliar with. Trump immediately clarified he had no preference. But did that stop the leftist outrage machine? Of course not.
Senator Lindsey Graham, clearly understanding the concept of a joke, played along on social media. He humorously suggested Trump as a “dark horse candidate” for Pope. The left, predictably, lost their minds. Either they genuinely can’t recognize obvious satire, or they’re willfully misinterpreting it to fuel their perpetual outrage. Neither option speaks well of their intellectual capacity.
The papal conclave is a serious matter of Catholic doctrine. The idea that Trump, a non-Catholic, could become Pope is absurd. It’s a fundamental misunderstanding of basic religious principles. But the left doesn’t care about facts or religious liberty when there’s an opportunity to attack Trump.
Statistically speaking, the likelihood of an American becoming Pope is already minuscule. The data clearly shows that the vast majority of Popes have been European. But let’s say, hypothetically, an American cardinal was elected. It still wouldn’t be Trump, because – and this is crucial – he’s not even Catholic!
In conclusion, Trump made a joke, Graham extended the joke, and the left, in their infinite wisdom, chose to treat it as a serious threat to the separation of church and state. It’s objectively clear that this manufactured outrage is nothing more than another pathetic attempt to distract from the real issues facing our nation.
