Social Security Administration announced that it will be using the social media platform X for future announcements.
Linda Kerr Davis, SSA Midwest/West regional commissioner, told Federal News Network that the agency would use X, formerly Twitter, to communicate with the media and the public. “This will be our communication tool.”
Elon Musk is the tech billionaire who owns X. He is also a top advisor to Donald Trump and heads up the Department of Government Efficiency. His group has cut back on the Social Security agency that serves over 70 million Americans. This includes closing 47 field offices in the U.S.

Kerr-Davis suggested that if you are used to receiving Dear Colleague letters and press releases, you may want to subscribe to SSA X’s official account to stay updated with agency news.
She added, “I understand that this may sound strange to you – it was the same for me – and is not what we’re used to. But we live in a different time now.”
