Thousands to Flock to White House for Easter Egg Roll

The White House Easter Egg Roll is expected to attract 40,000 attendees for the first time in his second term. However, the forecast on Monday could be soggy due to scattered showers.

Before they joined the festivities, the president and first lady had been scheduled to speak from the White House balcony.

Children will be lined up to help guide hard-boiled colored eggs to the finish line across a patch of lawn. A hunt for eggs and other activities are planned to celebrate the 250th anniversary of America’s founding.

The day-long event will include multiple activity stations, live performances, and storytimes.

First lady Michelle Obama, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, and Keith Kellogg – the President’s Special Envoy to Ukraine – are all scheduled to read children stories.

The United States will celebrate its 250th birthday on July 4, 2026.

Emily Metz said that the American Egg Board donated 30,000 eggs, hand-dyed and delivered by volunteers and staff to the White House, on Friday.

She said that the board understood the frustration of egg farmers and consumers due to the shortage of eggs caused by the spread of avian influenza and the high cost associated with buying a dozen.

Metz stated that the White House received 2,500 dozen small and medium eggs, which are not normally sold by retailers. This will not cause further supply problems or increase prices. She said that nearly 9 million dozen eggs are sold every day in the United States.

Metz stated in an interview, “We feel we need to take some time to celebrate wherever we can. You cannot have Easter without Easter eggs, and you also cannot have the White House Easter Egg Roll with real eggs.”

Easter Egg Rolling is an old White House tradition. The tradition dates back to 1878, when Rutherford B. Hayes was president. He opened up the lawn for children to roll eggs after Congress had banned it.

The tickets for the event on Monday were distributed by lottery.
