ICE Arrests Alleged Hit Man Who Got Work Permit Under Biden Policy

The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, known widely as ICE, in collaboration with the U.S. Marshals Service, recently apprehended a Venezuelan fugitive accused of multiple contract murders. The man, Anthony Fabian Marin La Torre, was detained in Grapevine, Texas, a suburb of Dallas, on May 2.

Marin La Torre, 42, had been on Interpol’s wanted list for his alleged role in four contract killings, a fatal shooting, and for his association with the Venezuelan criminal group “El Chamu”. ICE reports indicate that Marin La Torre crossed into the U.S. illegally in 2022 and later obtained a work permit during the Biden administration.

This case raises important questions about the U.S. immigration system. Marin La Torre allegedly entered the U.S. near the San Luis, Arizona, port of entry as part of a family unit. This was followed by his appearance at the ICE office in Dallas for a required check-in, during which he was issued a notice to appear in immigration court in 2025. He subsequently applied for a federal work permit and asylum, and protected status, with these applications still pending.

U.S. authorities were likely unaware of Marin La Torre’s criminal history at the time of his crossing due to non-cooperation from the Venezuelan regime under Nicolas Maduro. It was not until February 18 that Venezuelan authorities notified their U.S. counterparts of Marin La Torre’s fugitive status in his home country.

This development follows earlier reports that during the Biden administration, border agents regularly released Venezuelan migrants into the U.S. due to a lack of information on their backgrounds. However, the Maduro regime recently reopened law enforcement communication channels and began accepting deportation flights from the U.S. following President Donald Trump’s return to office.

Both sides of this issue present compelling arguments. On one hand, the importance of robust immigration controls to protect national security cannot be understated. On the other hand, the humanitarian obligation to provide refuge to those fleeing violence and turmoil is a principle deeply ingrained in the American ethos.

As the story continues to unfold, ICE and its law enforcement partners pledge to remain vigilant in their efforts to identify and apprehend dangerous criminals. The significance of this should not be overlooked, as it serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing complexities of immigration policy and law enforcement cooperation.
