A San Antonio woman stands accused of aiding and abetting her son’s potential reign of terror on his fellow middle school students.
The woman, Ashley Pardo, 33, was taken into police custody on allegations of assisting in the orchestration of terrorism. Police reports suggest she purchased ammunition, firearm magazines, and tactical clothing for her son, fully aware of his intentions to commit, as they put it, “acts of mass violence” at his Texas middle school.
The young man arrived at school on Monday, decked out in military-style attire and a mask. However, he made a swift exit before any harm was done, only to be arrested later off school property.
The boy’s past is dotted with disturbing signs. Court records reveal a relative alerted the police after discovering the youth had a rifle, ammunition, and even an improvised explosive device. Earlier this year, the child was found at school with drawings of a somewhat sinister nature on him. The sketches showed a gun, the school’s name, and a map of the school grounds, chillingly labeled “suicide route.”
Pardo’s son was expelled in April after it was found that he had used a school computer to research a school shooting. Remarkably, he was allowed to return to school on May 8. A court affidavit starkly highlights that Pardo voiced her support for her son’s violent drawings and expressions to school officials, indicating no cause for alarm at his behavior.
Communities across America are grappling with the realities of such cases. It’s a reminder that the stakes couldn’t be higher when it comes to our children’s safety and mental health. As we continue the battle against this dreadful epidemic of school violence, we must remember to always look for the warning signs, seek help, and never underestimate the power of compassion and understanding.
