According to reliable sources, Russia has carried out its most severe drone assault on Ukraine since the onset of the full-scale invasion in 2022.
The Ukrainian Air Force reported on Sunday that Russia had fired 273 explosive drones and decoys in a single night. Among these, 88 were intercepted, and a further 128 were lost, likely due to electronic jamming. The attacks primarily targeted Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk, and Donetsk regions of Ukraine.
Yuriy Ihnat, Head of the Communications Department of the Ukrainian Air Force, stated that this barrage represented the most extensive drone attack since the initiation of the full-scale invasion. Before this, Russia’s largest known single drone assault was recorded on the eve of the war’s third anniversary, involving 267 drones.
Mykola Kalashnyk, the Kyiv regional Governor, reported a civilian casualty—a 28-year-old woman killed in a drone attack on his region. The incident also left three individuals, including a 4-year-old child, injured. Meanwhile, Russia’s Defense Ministry claimed that its air defenses had shot down seven Ukrainian drones overnight, followed by an additional 18 on Sunday morning.
This development follows earlier reports that the first direct talks between Moscow and Kyiv in recent years on Friday yielded no ceasefire. Russian President Vladimir Putin rejected Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s proposal for a face-to-face meeting in Turkey, although Putin himself had suggested direct talks as an alternative to the 30-day ceasefire urged by Ukraine and its Western allies, including the U.S.
According to reliable sources, U.S. President Donald Trump plans to speak with Putin by phone on Monday, and subsequently with Zelenskyy and leaders of various NATO countries, about ending the war in Ukraine. The significance of this should not be overlooked.
As we continue to monitor this escalating situation, it is essential to remember that these developments have real and lasting impacts on the lives of those in the affected regions. With questions remaining unanswered, the importance of staying informed and discerning cannot be understated.
