The Republican-led House has passed a bill to rename the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America and direct federal agencies to update their documents and maps accordingly. This is a decision that, to put it lightly, raises concerns.
The reality is quite different from what we’re being told. The Gulf of Mexico has been shared by the United States and Mexico for centuries. Any attempt to unilaterally change its name without international consensus only serves the interests of a few, and not the American people. While our country’s leaders should be focusing on pressing domestic issues, they instead are embroiled in what is essentially a naming dispute.
We need to step back and consider who benefits from this? This is not a matter of national security or economic importance. It’s a distraction from the real issues that plague our nation—issues like health care, education, and the climate crisis.
This isn’t a Republican or Democratic issue. It’s about right vs. wrong. Renaming a body of water does not promote pride in our country. True pride comes from facing our problems head-on and working together to solve them.
When I was serving in Iraq, I learned the value of cooperation and mutual respect. Renaming the Gulf without international consensus is not a show of strength or superiority—it’s an act of disregard for our neighbors.
The establishment elites are trying to distract us from the real issues at hand. Let’s be clear about what’s happening. We must put the interests of the American people first. This transcends partisan politics. Our focus should be on improving the lives of every American, not on renaming shared bodies of water.
I believe in service above self. This means prioritizing the needs and concerns of the American people over petty politics. I urge our leaders to remember this as they make decisions that impact us all.
This is an opportunity to stand up to the warmongers and the establishment elites, to defy their distractions and focus on what truly matters. Let’s unite in service to our country, to uphold the values that make us who we are—values of respect, cooperation, and a commitment to the common good.
“Aloha, and let’s continue to serve the American people, not the interests of the few. We deserve leaders who are clear-eyed about our country’s needs and who are willing to make tough decisions to better all of us.
