COVID Fraud Charges Filed Against Former Aide to NY Governors

Sun, already charged as an unregistered agent of China, is now accused of participating in a scheme to unlawfully obtain state contracts during the COVID-19 pandemic. The left will tell you that expanding government power during crises is necessary for public safety. This is absurd. What it does is create more opportunities for corruption and cronyism.

Sun and her husband allegedly steered $35 million in state contracts for personal protective equipment to vendors run by family members. Now, let’s say, for the sake of argument, that this was just a coincidence. Even if that were true (which it isn’t), the mere appearance of impropriety should have been enough to recuse her from the process. But no, the left’s obsession with centralized power trumps any concern for ethical governance.

Sun reportedly altered an email from a Chinese official to add her second cousin’s business to a list of recommended vendors. This is simply factually inaccurate information being presented to state officials. The idea that this could be anything other than deliberate fraud is a non-argument.

The problem is the left’s belief that expanding government control is the solution to every crisis. Let me ask you a question: if the free market had been allowed to operate without interference, would we have seen this level of corruption and inefficiency? The data is crystal clear on this: free markets allocate resources more efficiently and with less corruption than centralized government control.
