Reports from France indicate a disturbing development at the country’s annual street music festival, the Fête de la Musique. According to reliable sources, 145 people have reported being pricked with syringes during the festivities, leading to multiple arrests and ongoing investigations.
French authorities have detained 12 suspects in connection with these incidents. The interior ministry confirms that victims across the country have come forward with claims of being stabbed with needles. In Paris alone, police report 13 such cases.
The Fête de la Musique, which drew millions to the streets across France, saw what officials describe as “unprecedented crowds” in Paris. Before the event, social media posts allegedly called for women to be targeted during the celebrations, raising concerns about premeditated attacks.
While officials have not confirmed if these are instances of so-called “needle spiking” involving date-rape drugs, some victims have undergone toxicological tests at hospitals. This raises important questions about public safety at large gatherings.
Similar incidents were reported in the United Kingdom and other European nations approximately three years ago. The recurrence of such attacks suggests a troubling pattern that authorities must address.
The prefect of Paris police, Laurent Nunez, stated that “no major incident has been reported,” but the evidence suggests a significant number of people were affected. The detention of suspects, including four in Angouleme, allegedly linked to about 50 victims, indicates the seriousness with which authorities are treating these reports.
This development follows earlier reports of increased security measures at public events. The fact that 370 people were detained during the festival on various charges, with 14 participants seriously injured, underscores the challenges of maintaining order during large-scale celebrations.
The situation remains fluid, and we will continue to monitor developments as the investigation proceeds. The public is advised to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
