Intel Warns of Imminent Attacks on US Bases by Iran-Backed Militants

According to reliable sources, including The New York Times, groups associated with Iran seem to be planning attacks on U.S. bases in the Middle East. This development follows earlier reports of the bombings of Iran’s nuclear facilities.

Both U.S. military and intelligence officials have detected signs of potential attacks being prepared by Iran-backed groups, primarily targeting bases in Iraq, and possibly Syria as well. The evidence suggests these plans are in response to the bombings in Iran.

U.S. officials noted that Iraqi leaders were making efforts to prevent such militia action. Meanwhile, U.S. military operations struck three sites in Iran early Sunday, thereby directly involving the United States in Israel’s ongoing conflict with Iran aimed at dismantling Iran’s nuclear program.

More than 40,000 U.S. military personnel and civilians occupy bases and warships in the Middle East, including Al-Asad and Erbil air bases in Iraq. However, NDTV reported Monday that Iran’s proxy network has been weakened by Israel and U.S. forces in recent years, reducing their capabilities to a certain extent.

Following Sunday’s attack on Iran’s Fordo, Isfahan, and Natanz nuclear sites, the U.S. President issued a stern warning to Iran and its proxies, stating that any retaliation against the U.S. would be met with substantial force. This raises important questions about the potential escalation of conflict in the region.

On the other hand, Iran pledged swift retaliation. In a statement reported by The Washington Post, an Iranian state media commentator warned, “Every American citizen or military personnel in the region is now a target.”

Before the U.S. air strikes on Iran, Iran-backed Shiite militias in Iraq were preparing mass demonstrations against Israel and issuing warnings of potential attacks on American positions. This has increased tensions in the region amid Israel’s ongoing conflict with Iran.

The State Department has since issued a Worldwide Caution Security Alert, advising U.S. citizens overseas to exercise increased caution. The significance of this should not be overlooked, as it underlines the importance of a well-informed public in these times of heightened tensions.
