The drive-by media is at it again, spinning their web of deceit. This time they’re targeting our fearless leader, President Trump, for his recent proposal to reduce the maximum federal Pell Grant award from $7,395 to $5,710 a year. Now, this grant is federal aid that apparently 40% of undergraduate students depend on to fund their college education.
This proposal isn’t about denying opportunities or punishing low-income families. No, this is about restoring balance. You see, under the current system, universities are incentivized to keep hiking tuition because they know the government will just keep shelling out more and more money. It’s a vicious cycle that needs to stop.
This isn’t just about Pell Grants. Trump’s proposal also aims to reduce the federal work-study program, another example of government handouts. This is all part of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, a piece of legislation that Republicans in Congress are trying to enact. It’s about time we had some fiscal responsibility in this country!
But of course, our friends on the left can’t stand the idea of a balanced budget. Massachusetts Democrat Sen. Elizabeth Warren had the gall to criticize the proposal. She claims that “the money we invest in post-high school education isn’t charity,” but I argue, isn’t it? What happened to earning your way in this country? And what about those hard-working Americans who don’t go to college but still have to pay taxes?
Trump’s proposal is all about promoting self-reliance and fiscal responsibility. The left would have you believe this is some kind of disaster. But the real disaster would be to continue funding this free-ride, liberal agenda.
It’s time to take back our country, to encourage hard work and personal responsibility.
