Mississippi Dispatches 200 National Guardsmen to Defend D.C.

Mississippi has deployed 200 members of the National Guard to Washington, D.C., in response to a federal initiative aimed at tackling crime and homelessness, according to a statement from Governor Tate Reeves.

“Crime is out of control there, and something must be done to combat it,” Governor Reeves reported. “Americans deserve a safe capital city that we can all be proud of.” “I know the brave men and women of our National Guard will do an excellent job enhancing public safety and supporting law enforcement,” the governor’s statement continued.

South Carolina, West Virginia, and Ohio are also preparing to deploy National Guard units. This follows President Trump’s executive order last week, which demanded the mobilization of 800 D.C. National Guardsmen and temporarily placed the City’s Metropolitan Police Department under the control of the Justice Department. However, this arrangement ended after judicial intervention urged both parties to negotiate a settlement.

The President voiced concerns about the veracity of crime statistics from Washington, D.C., claiming that the city “gave Fake Crime numbers to create a false illusion of safety.” He affirmed this on Truth Social, adding that the city is under investigation and that its safety situation is improving. The President’s statements, however, raise important questions about the validity of these crime rates and how they have been reported.

As we report this story, it is imperative to remember the importance of accuracy, truth, and the democratic process.
