Kelley Mack, an actress known for her roles in “The Walking Dead” and “Chicago Med,” has died at the age of 33.
Mack passed away on August 2nd, with her mother and aunt by her side. The cause of death has been attributed to a glioma, a type of tumor affecting the central nervous system. This follows Mack’s public disclosure in January of her diagnosis with diffuse midline glioma, a rare form of astrocytoma cancer.
The National Cancer Institute reports that approximately 3,940 people in the United States live with diffuse midline gliomas. These tumors originate in the primary central nervous system, such as the brain or spinal cord. The relative five-year survival rate for this condition is 42.2 percent, though individual outcomes can vary based on factors including age and tumor grade.
Addy in the ninth season of “The Walking Dead” and Penelope Jacobs in “Chicago Med.” Born Kelley Klebenow in Cincinnati, Ohio, she pursued a career in acting after graduating from Chapman University in 2014.
Mack’s passing extends beyond her acting career. Her family describes her as “a bright, fervent light” and notes that she was also active as a producer, writer, and voiceover artist. This raises important questions about the impact of loss on both the entertainment industry and those who knew her personally.
It’s worth noting that Mack’s openness about her diagnosis may contribute to increased awareness of rare cancers like diffuse midline glioma. The public’s right to information on such health issues remains a crucial aspect of our society’s ongoing dialogue about medical research and treatment.
