Trump Orders U.S. Nuclear Subs Into Strike Position as Russia Tensions Explode

Donald Trump is in the captain’s chair of America’s ship of state and has given the order to position two of our nuclear submarines within striking distance of Russia.

“Based on the highly provocative statements of the Former President of Russia, Dmitry Medvedev, who is now the Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, I have ordered two Nuclear Submarines to be positioned in the appropriate regions, just in case these foolish and inflammatory statements are more than just that,” wrote Trump on his Truth Social page.

In a post on Telegram Thursday, Medvedev warned Trump to remember “his favorite films about the ‘walking dead,'” invoking a chilling reference to the Soviet-era system designed to automatically launch a retaliatory nuclear strike if the country were annihilated. It remained unclear whether Medvedev was alluding to the American apocalyptic TV series The Walking Dead or using the phrase more ominously.

We don’t know whether these submarines are capable of launching nuclear strikes. The Pentagon typically plays this information close to the vest, for obvious strategic reasons. They’re often out there, in the deep blue, shadowing Russian and Chinese vessels.

Is this a chess move, aimed at checking Russia’s aggression? Or is it a sign of escalating tensions that could boil over into something no one wants to contemplate?

Trump has effectively shortened the countdown for Russia’s agreement to a Ukraine peace settlement from 50 days to 10 or 12. Medvedev, in response, accuses Trump of playing “the ultimatum game,” warning that this could lead to war.
