President Donald Trump, in a recent social media post, has made a call to members of the Republican Party to outlaw mail-in voting.
The president released this message on ‘Truth Social’, his online platform, early Wednesday. The message was to-the-point, reading, “Republicans: BAN MAIL-IN VOTING!!! President DJT”.
On August 18, Trump expressed his intention to enact an executive order prohibiting the use of mail-in ballots and electronic voting machines in federal elections. This move, he argues, is necessary to regain public faith in the American electoral process. The president claims that the rapid advancement and widespread use of vote-by-mail and computerized voting systems have led to fraudulent activity, mismanagement, and manipulation.

In response to this, legal experts were quick to emphasize that it is within the authority of the states, as stated in the Constitution, to oversee elections, with Congress holding limited power to regulate them.

Trump relayed that during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on August 15 in Alaska, Putin echoed his sentiments about the use of mail voting and the events of the 2020 election. Following this, Trump resumed his criticism of mail voting and electronic voting machines during a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in the Oval Office on August 18.
As we move closer to the 2026 midterm elections, the debate surrounding the security and efficiency of different voting methods continues to be a contentious issue.
