Reports from Alaska indicate that a mid-August summit between the two nations revealed a stark reality: the confrontation between Washington and Moscow is likely to persist, regardless of the immediate outcome in Ukraine.

Russian officials showed no inclination to reduce their military operations in Ukraine during the Anchorage meeting. This development follows earlier reports that Russian forces have suffered significant casualties since the full-scale invasion began in February 2022, with estimates suggesting up to one million total casualties, including approximately 200,000 fatalities.

Evidence suggests that the Kremlin, under the leadership of Vladimir Putin, is expanding its aggressive posture beyond Ukraine.
