ABC’s broadcast of Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night show has been suspended indefinitely following remarks Kimmel made about the death of Charlie Kirk. This decision comes after the host’s commentary during his monologue on Tuesday evening.
Kimmel’s comments were centered on the recent killing of Charlie Kirk, and his words, it seems, struck a contentious note. Reports indicate that he suggested an affiliation between the so-called “MAGA gang” and the individual responsible for Kirk’s death, insinuating that there were attempts to politicize the incident.
Federal Communications Commission Chair Brendan Carr had earlier urged broadcasters to halt the airing of the show on Disney-owned ABC. The significance of this should not be overlooked, as this came before ABC decided to suspend the show.

President Donald Trump applauded ABC’s decision on his Truth Social platform. His message congratulated ABC while criticizing Kimmel’s talent and show ratings. Other conservative figures, including Senator Ted Cruz and Carl Higbie, also expressed their views on the matter.
Both Kimmel and fellow late-night host Stephen Colbert have consistently been critical of President Trump and his policies. In a similar vein, CBS is set to cancel Colbert’s show at the end of the season due to financial concerns, although some speculate that his stance on Trump may have played a role.
Kimmel’s comments also came under regulatory scrutiny from the FCC. Chair Carr warned ABC and parent company Disney that they may have misled the public. This development follows earlier reports that Kimmel’s show has been attracting approximately 1.8 million viewers a night for its first-run episodes, trailing the now-canceled Colbert’s show.
The evidence suggests that controversial comments have led to the suspension of Kimmel’s show. However, it raises important questions about the influence of political commentary in late-night television and the potential consequences for those who cross certain lines. As always, we continue to remind viewers of the importance of staying informed in these dynamic times.
