Tom Homan Confronts Democrats Over Four Years of Border Security Failures

Border czar Tom Homan delivered a pointed and comprehensive indictment of Democratic immigration policy during a Tuesday evening interview, systematically dismantling their attempts to deflect responsibility for four years of border catastrophe.

The facts are damning, and Homan laid them out with precision. Over 10 million illegal border crossings occurred during the previous administration. A quarter million Americans died from fentanyl that poured across an effectively open border. Record numbers of individuals from terrorist sponsor countries entered the United States. Sex trafficking of women and children reached historic highs.

Then there are the children. Half a million were smuggled into the United States. The previous administration lost track of 300,000 of them and was not even attempting to locate them. Under President Trump’s leadership, more than 30,000 have already been found.

Democrats attempted to defend an ICE tracking application, claiming it merely compiles possible misconduct and abuses without monitoring officer movements or revealing private information. This misses the fundamental point entirely.

Homan articulated a logical chain that Democrats desperately want to avoid: supporting illegal immigration means supporting criminal cartels in Mexico. This is not hyperbole or political rhetoric. It is an inescapable fact. No one crosses the border illegally without paying a plaza fee to these criminal organizations. When cartels smuggle people, they also smuggle guns and drugs. These activities are inextricably linked.

The border czar made clear that the Trump administration will not allow Democrats to memory-hole their complicity in what he accurately described as the biggest national security failure and humanitarian failure in American history. This assessment is not partisan exaggeration when examined against the evidence.

Consider the scope: millions of unvetted individuals entering the country, hundreds of thousands of dead Americans from cartel-supplied fentanyl, hundreds of thousands of lost children, and a systematic empowerment of transnational criminal organizations. These are measurable, documented failures with real human costs.

Democrats want to focus on process questions and deflect to concerns about tracking applications. This represents a fundamental unwillingness to grapple with the consequences of their policy choices. They created a system that incentivized illegal border crossings, enriched criminal cartels, and resulted in preventable American deaths.

Homan’s statement that illegal migration is not a victimless crime deserves emphasis. Every illegal crossing funds criminal organizations. Every smuggling operation potentially involves human trafficking. Every unvetted entry represents a security risk. These are not abstract policy debates but concrete realities with measurable human costs.

The contrast between the previous administration’s approach and the current one could not be starker. One lost track of 300,000 children and was not looking for them. The other has found more than 30,000 in a matter of weeks. One facilitated the largest border crisis in American history. The other is systematically addressing it.

Democrats can protest, create tracking applications, and attempt to shift focus to alleged ICE misconduct. None of this changes their record. None of this absolves them of responsibility for the consequences of their policies. As Homan noted, those who remain ignorant of the connection between illegal immigration and cartel empowerment are simply choosing willful blindness over uncomfortable facts.

The Trump administration is establishing accountability where none previously existed, and that accountability begins with honest assessment of the previous four years.
