Trump Honors Freed Israeli Hostages at White House Following Historic Middle East Peace Deal

President Donald Trump welcomed recently freed Israeli hostages to the White House on Thursday, marking a significant moment in the aftermath of his administration’s Middle East peace deal that secured the release of captives held by the terrorist organization Hamas.

The meeting, held in the State Dining Room, came just over a month after Trump’s historic 20-point peace plan brought an end to the Gaza conflict and facilitated the release of the remaining living hostages and 25 of 28 deceased victims.

“You’re not a hostage anymore. Today you’re heroes,” Trump told the assembled former captives. “It’s an honor to get to know all of you. I know some of you already. I know some of the previous hostages that we got out very well. We love you all, and our country loves you all, and the world is watching and really you’re amazing people.”

The President presented each freed hostage with his presidential challenge coin, a gesture recognizing their ordeal and resilience.

Among those in attendance were Matan Zangauker, Yosef-Haim Ohana, Ziv Berman, Gali Berman, David Cunio, Ariel Cunio, Omri Miran, Eitan Horn, Segev Calfon, Nimrod Cohen, Bar Kupershtein, and Avinatan Or. These individuals remained in Hamas captivity until October 13, when Trump traveled to Israel to address the Knesset following Hamas’s acceptance of his peace framework.

Also present was Iair Horn, who Hamas released in February 2025. Horn delivered pointed remarks emphasizing that the mission remains incomplete.

“The fight isn’t over. We’re here in Washington, D.C. to close our own chapter, but there are families still living through the pain our families endured,” Horn stated. “This won’t be over until everyone comes home. There’s a rally this Saturday night, I’m asking everyone to show up. Everyone needs to come home, now.”

Here are the facts: While Hamas released all living hostages, the terrorist organization has returned only 25 of 28 deceased victims. Three remain unaccounted for: Ran Gvili and Dror Or, both Israeli citizens, and Sudthisak Rinthalak of Thailand.

This situation raises serious questions about Hamas’s commitment to the terms of the peace agreement. The return of deceased hostages represents basic human decency and respect for grieving families. Hamas’s failure to return these three individuals suggests either incompetence in locating the remains or, more troublingly, a deliberate withholding of information.

The Trump administration’s peace deal represented a significant diplomatic achievement, securing the release of living hostages and bringing relative stability to a volatile region. The President’s personal involvement, including his trip to Israel to address the Knesset, demonstrated American leadership on the world stage.

However, the incomplete return of deceased hostages underscores the challenges of dealing with terrorist organizations that operate outside normal diplomatic frameworks. Hamas’s track record of deception and violence makes any agreement inherently fragile.

The families of the three unreturned victims deserve closure. The international community, particularly nations that have provided humanitarian aid to Gaza, should pressure Hamas to fulfill its obligations completely. Partial compliance with peace agreements cannot become an acceptable standard.

As the freed hostages rebuild their lives and share their stories, their presence at the White House serves as both celebration and reminder. The celebration acknowledges their freedom and resilience. The reminder points to unfinished business and families still waiting for answers.
