The Trump administration is moving forward with multiple deportations connected to the sprawling Somali fraud scandal, and the investigation now includes serious questions about Representative Ilhan Omar’s immigration status, according to border czar Tom Homan.
The facts here are straightforward. Homan revealed that a veteran fraud investigator from Homeland Security Investigations recently reviewed Omar’s file and confirmed immigration fraud was involved. This is not speculation. This is a professional assessment from one of the most experienced fraud investigators in HSI.
The statute of limitations became an issue during the previous four years when these allegations first surfaced. The relevant question is obvious: who was president during that time, and who controlled the Department of Justice? The Trump administration is now pulling the records and conducting a thorough review.
“This fraud investigator, who I know personally, one of the best fraud investigators in HSI Homeland Security Investigations, said there’s no doubt,” Homan stated regarding the potential Omar immigration fraud. “He reviewed the file. So I’m running that down this week, matter of fact, and we’ll see.”
The Omar case represents just one element of a much larger problem. Reports indicate that nearly 50 percent of visas in the Somali community are fraudulent. Homan confirmed that individuals who obtained visas through fraudulent means will have them stripped and face deportation.
“Those days are over. Thank God, President Trump’s in the White House,” Homan explained. The administration is examining everyone who entered illegally, those present on visas who have committed crimes, national security threats, and those who exploited weak vetting processes during the Biden administration.
The historical context matters here. A retired Immigration and Customs Enforcement official recently revealed that a decade of Somali migration to the United States was riddled with mass fraud through the P-3 refugee pipeline. This program, created by the Refugee Act of 1980, allowed refugees to sponsor spouses, unmarried children, and parents for refugee status.
From 2003 through 2008, Africans, including Somalis, represented more than 95 percent of refugees who arrived through the P-3 program. By March 2008, approximately 36,000 mostly African refugees had entered the United States through this pipeline, with the majority resettling in Minnesota.
The program was finally halted by President George W. Bush after the State Department uncovered mass fraud. A November 2008 State Department report detailed how the agency began requiring P-3 refugees from Somalia, Ethiopia, and Liberia to take DNA tests to prove they were blood relatives to the refugees sponsoring them. The results were damning.
The Trump administration is now conducting what Homan described as a “deep dive” into the entire system. This is not about targeting any particular community. This is about enforcing immigration law, protecting national security, and holding accountable those who defrauded the American immigration system.
The principle is simple: if you entered the country through fraudulent means, you do not have a legitimate right to remain. The previous administration’s weak vetting processes and apparent unwillingness to investigate credible fraud allegations created this mess. The current administration is cleaning it up.
Multiple deportations are confirmed to be forthcoming. The investigation into Omar continues. The facts will determine the outcome, as they should in any legitimate legal proceeding.
