Protesters Disrupt Homeland Security Hearing as Noem Details Border Enforcement Success

Two protesters interrupted Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem within seconds of her opening remarks during a congressional hearing on threats to the homeland Thursday, providing a perfect illustration of the left’s refusal to acknowledge basic facts about immigration enforcement and national security.

The first disrupter, dressed as a priest and carrying a crucifix, shouted “End deportations!” and “The power of Christ compels you!” as Noem began her testimony before the House Committee on Homeland Security. Despite being warned that interrupting congressional business constitutes a criminal offense, the protester continued until security removed him from the room.

Before security could fully escort the first protester out, a second activist stood up waving a sign and yelling, “Get ICE off our streets! Stop terrorizing your community!” Security promptly removed that individual as well.

Here is what the protesters apparently cannot grasp: enforcing immigration law is not terrorism. It is the basic function of government. The rule of law matters, and without it, there is no functioning society.

Noem brushed off the theatrical display and proceeded with her testimony, outlining the Trump administration’s accomplishments in securing the border and restoring sanity to America’s immigration system.

“Under President Trump’s leadership, DHS is securing our borders. We are restoring the rule of law and we are protecting the homeland,” Noem testified. “DHS is eradicating transnational organized crime and stopping deadly drugs from continuing to be funneled into our communities. We are ending illegal immigration and returning sanity back to our immigration system.”

The hearing, titled “Worldwide Threats to the Homeland,” provided lawmakers the opportunity to question Noem and other administration officials about the most pressing security challenges facing the nation. The answers should concern every American.

National Counterterrorism Center Director Joe Kent delivered a stark assessment that reinforced Noem’s previous warnings about the consequences of the Biden administration’s open borders policies.

“The number one threat that we have right now, in my view, is the fact that we do not know who came into our country in the last four years of Biden’s open borders,” Kent told the committee.

Let that sink in. The nation’s top counterterrorism official just testified that millions of unvetted individuals entered the United States during the Biden years, and federal authorities have no idea who they are, where they are, or what their intentions might be.

This is not fearmongering. This is not xenophobia. This is a factual assessment of a security crisis created by deliberate policy choices.

The Biden administration effectively dismantled border security, rolled back enforcement mechanisms, and created incentives for illegal immigration. The result was predictable: historic levels of illegal border crossings, surges in drug trafficking, and the entry of unknown numbers of individuals who were never properly vetted or tracked.

The Trump administration is now tasked with cleaning up this mess, and the work involves enforcing existing immigration law. That means deporting individuals who entered the country illegally or violated the terms of their admission. This is not controversial. This is how sovereign nations operate.

Yet the left continues to characterize basic immigration enforcement as somehow cruel or unjust, as evidenced by Thursday’s protest theatrics. The emotional appeals and religious imagery cannot change the fundamental reality that a nation without borders is not a nation at all.

The facts are clear. The threats are real. And the Trump administration is doing what the previous administration refused to do: protecting American citizens by securing the homeland.
