House Oversight Committee Subpoenas Epstein Financial Backer Les Wexner

The House Oversight Committee has authorized subpoenas for billionaire Les Wexner and two former associates of Jeffrey Epstein, escalating a congressional investigation that should have concluded years ago.

Let’s be clear about what is happening here. The committee is finally taking action to compel testimony from individuals who have evaded serious scrutiny for far too long. Wexner, the founder of L Brands and former CEO who built the Victoria’s Secret empire, maintained a decades-long relationship with Epstein that included granting him sweeping power of attorney over his finances. That arrangement alone raises questions that demand answers under oath.

The subpoenas also target Darren Indyke and Richard Kahn, who served as Epstein’s longtime legal and financial advisors. These men managed the estate of a convicted sex offender whose connections to powerful figures across politics, business, and entertainment have been documented but never fully investigated.

Representative Robert Garcia, the ranking member from California, announced the move late Tuesday, stating that the committee secured “key subpoenas for billionaire benefactor Les Wexner, and the executors of the Epstein estate.” The statement acknowledged what critics have argued for years: this investigation has moved at a glacial pace while evidence potentially deteriorates and memories fade.

The facts are straightforward. Epstein cultivated relationships with some of the wealthiest and most influential people in America. Wexner’s relationship with Epstein was particularly extensive. Epstein managed Wexner’s fortune, lived in a Manhattan mansion owned by Wexner, and wielded extraordinary authority over the billionaire’s business affairs. When that relationship ended, Wexner claimed he had been manipulated, but questions remain about what he knew and when he knew it.

The Department of Justice has recently published additional tranches of Epstein-related documents, with promises of more releases following a Friday deadline. This information should have been available to the public years ago. The delayed release of these files represents a failure of transparency that erodes public trust in institutions that claim to pursue justice.

Here is what the American people deserve: complete transparency about who enabled Epstein’s criminal enterprise, who benefited from association with him, and whether anyone with knowledge of his activities failed to report them to authorities. The subpoenas represent a necessary step, but they arrive years late.

The committee’s investigation must now proceed with urgency. Wexner and the estate executors possess information critical to understanding how Epstein financed his operations and maintained his network of influence. Their testimony under oath will either provide clarity or expose further obstruction.

Congress has a constitutional obligation to investigate matters of public concern. The Epstein case involves credible allegations of sex trafficking, potential blackmail operations, and connections to powerful individuals across multiple sectors. These are not peripheral issues. They strike at the heart of whether justice applies equally or whether wealth and connections provide immunity.

The subpoenas signal that this investigation may finally produce substantive results. The American people have waited long enough for answers.
