There’s something darkly comedic about watching a political party sprint headfirst into its own irrelevance, and the Democrats are giving us a masterclass right now. Abdul El-Sayed, a progressive Senate candidate in Michigan, is hosting an event next month with Hasan Piker, a Twitch streamer who once declared that America deserved the September 11th attacks. Let that sink in for a moment. A man running for the United States Senate is partnering with someone who thinks nearly three thousand innocent Americans had it coming.
This isn’t some fringe collaboration happening in a basement somewhere. El-Sayed is bringing Piker to Michigan State University on April 7th, alongside Rep. Summer Lee from Pennsylvania. The press release teases unnamed special guests, which makes you wonder what other characters they’ve lined up. Perhaps someone who thinks Pearl Harbor was justified? Maybe a flat earther for good measure?
Piker isn’t just your garden variety progressive. He’s openly described communism as his end goal, a stateless, moneyless, classless society achieved through socialism. These aren’t my words twisted for effect. He said this himself on Hasan Minhaj’s podcast. And Bernie Sanders, that perpetual thorn in capitalism’s side, actually thanked Piker last year for his work reaching millions who’ve tuned out legacy media. You know what? Maybe those millions should tune back in if this is the alternative.
The Democratic Party used to be the party of working Americans, of union halls and kitchen table economics. Now they’re courting internet personalities who spend their days streaming to teenagers while advocating for economic systems that have failed spectacularly everywhere they’ve been tried. It’s not just tone deaf. It’s a complete abandonment of the values that built this country.
El-Sayed’s campaign platform reads like a socialist wishlist. Medicare for all, tuition-free college, opposition to corporate tax breaks. He’s got the endorsements to match, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rashida Tlaib, Bernie Sanders. The whole progressive gang is here. When asked about the Piker event, his campaign declined to comment, which tells you everything. They know how this looks but they’re doing it anyway.
Here’s what bothers me most. We’re talking about a Senate seat in Michigan, a state that knows something about economic hardship and the value of honest work. These aren’t abstract policy discussions. Real families are struggling with inflation, worried about their kids’ futures, wondering if the American Dream still exists. And what does El-Sayed offer them? A partnership with someone who mocks the worst terrorist attack in American history.
The progressive wing keeps insisting they represent the future, that their policies will fix everything wrong with America. But when your vision requires tearing down everything that makes this country exceptional, when you align yourself with people who celebrate our darkest days, you’re not building anything. You’re just destroying with extra steps.
El-Sayed claims he rejects labels like right and left, which is rich considering he’s appeared with every far-left figure you can name. Actions speak louder than carefully crafted statements, and his actions place him squarely in the deep-blue, socialism-curious wing of the Democratic Party. That’s not an insult. It’s just observable reality.
The really troubling part is how normalized this has become. A few years ago, associating with someone who said America deserved 9/11 would’ve ended a political career before lunch. Now it’s a campaign event with special guests. The Overton window hasn’t just shifted. It’s been ripped off its hinges and thrown into traffic.
Michigan voters deserve better than this. They deserve candidates who believe in American exceptionalism, not American culpability. They deserve leaders who want to preserve what works while fixing what doesn’t, not burn it all down in pursuit of some utopian fantasy that’s never worked anywhere, ever. The choice in this race couldn’t be clearer. You can vote for someone who teams up with communist streamers, or you can vote for someone who actually believes in the country they’re trying to represent.
