Hunter Biden just announced he wants to fight Eric and Donald Trump Jr. in a cage match, and you know what? This is exactly where we are as a country right now. The younger Biden made his declaration in a video for Andrew Callaghan’s Channel 5 YouTube channel, saying he’s “100% in” if Callaghan can make it happen. He’ll be joining Callaghan’s tour at the end of April, and apparently somewhere between discussing whatever else they’re discussing, the idea of throwing hands with the Trump brothers came up.
Let’s be clear about something. This is absurd. Completely, utterly absurd. But it’s also perfectly fitting for an era where the line between politics and performance art dissolved years ago and nobody bothered to clean up the mess. Hunter Biden, a man who’s been through the legal wringer and back, whose personal life has been dissected more thoroughly than a high school biology frog, now wants to settle whatever beef exists between these political dynasties inside an octagon. The proposed fight would serve as a pre-event for UFC Freedom 250, scheduled for this summer at the White House, because apparently that’s a thing now too.
Here’s where my conservative principles kick in hard. This whole circus represents everything wrong with how political families operate in America today. These aren’t self-made men building businesses or serving their communities out of genuine conviction. They’re legacy kids trading on their fathers’ names, and now they want to literally fight each other for our entertainment. Where’s the dignity? Where’s the substance? We used to have statesmen’s sons who went off to build their own reputations through military service or actual entrepreneurship. Now we get cage match challenges on YouTube.
But I’ll admit something that might sound contradictory. Part of me wants to see this happen. Not because it’s good or right or beneficial to political discourse. I want to see it because it’s honest. At least a cage match is transparent about what it is. You know what you’re getting. Unlike the usual political theater where everyone pretends to care about policy while really just nursing personal grudges and family grievances, this would be those grudges laid bare. No pretense. No spin doctors. Just three guys who probably can’t stand each other, and the raw truth of that animosity.
The reality is that Eric and Don Jr. would gain absolutely nothing from accepting this challenge. They’re the current president’s sons. They hold the high ground politically and socially. Taking this fight would be descending to a level they don’t need to reach. Smart money says they ignore this completely, maybe make a joke about it on social media, and move on. That’s the disciplined play. That’s what their advisors will tell them.
Still, we live in strange times. The Trump family hasn’t exactly been known for taking the conventional path or backing down from confrontation. Maybe they surprise everyone. Maybe somebody in their circle thinks this could be spun as showing strength or not being afraid of the Bidens even in literal combat. Stranger things have happened in the past five years of American politics.
What bothers me most isn’t the spectacle itself. It’s what the spectacle represents. We’ve completely lost the plot on what political families should be doing with their platforms and influence. Instead of championing free market solutions or defending constitutional principles or building businesses that create jobs, we’re talking about cage matches. The culture has degraded to the point where this seems almost normal, just another Tuesday in American public life.
And yet the people making noise about this will be the same ones who claim they’re fighting for the soul of the nation. Please. The soul of the nation isn’t defended in a cage match organized by a YouTube personality. It’s defended through principled leadership, limited government, and citizens who demand better from everyone involved in public life, including and especially the children of presidents who should know better.
But yeah, I’d probably watch it if it happened. We all would. That’s the problem.
