Minnesota Prosecutor Targets ICE Agent in Latest Attack on Immigration Law

Let’s be clear about what’s happening in Minnesota. This isn’t about justice. It’s about ideology dressed up in prosecutorial robes, and it should terrify anyone who still believes the legal system exists to pursue truth rather than political scores.

Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty has charged an ICE agent with assault for the grave crime of pointing his weapon at a driver who swerved recklessly into his lane during rush hour traffic. Gregory Donnell Morgan Jr. was navigating Highway 62 in an unmarked vehicle when another driver cut him off so aggressively that he feared for his safety. His response? He drew his Glock 19, rolled down his window, and shouted “police stop” to get the erratic driver to back off.

Now he’s facing criminal charges.

You know what’s most revealing here? Moriarty didn’t stumble into this case by accident. She’s been hunting for opportunities to prosecute federal immigration officers. She’s said so publicly, citing multiple cases where she believes ICE agents deserve charges, including situations where agents defended themselves against armed attackers. This is premeditated legal warfare against law enforcement doing their jobs.

Take the case of Renee Good, a woman who tried to run over an ICE officer with her car. The officer shot in self-defense, which any reasonable person would call justified force against attempted murder. Moriarty calls it a “killing” that merits prosecution. Think about that logic for a moment. She expects federal officers to let themselves be run over rather than defend their lives. That’s not justice. That’s suicidal policy masquerading as compassion.

The details of Morgan’s case will eventually surface in full, and maybe there are procedural questions about when exactly he drew his weapon versus when he identified himself. His partner noted seeing the firearm out before Morgan shouted his warning, which prosecutors will likely seize on. But here’s the thing that matters more than any technical detail: Moriarty’s bias is so blatant, so documented, that this case is poisoned from the start.

Back in February, she threw a public fit when ICE arrested an illegal alien at a courthouse. The alien in question had been charged with first-degree drug possession for carrying over fifty pounds of methamphetamine. Fifty pounds. That’s not personal use, that’s distribution on a scale that destroys communities. But Moriarty characterized the arrest as “disruptive and disturbing” and complained it would prevent witnesses from testifying and rob victims of justice.

The irony is almost funny if it weren’t so dangerous. She’s worried about disrupting justice while protecting someone flooding Minnesota streets with meth. Because sanctuary policies in Minnesota force ICE to arrest aliens at courthouses since local authorities refuse to cooperate with federal immigration enforcement, Moriarty acts like the feds are committing acts of terrorism by doing their jobs.

This is what happens when district attorneys care more about political posturing than public safety. The free market works because people face consequences for bad decisions. The justice system works when prosecutors pursue actual criminals instead of the officers trying to stop them. Limited government means letting federal agencies enforce federal law without local prosecutors turning courtrooms into ideological battlegrounds.

Morgan was trying to stop a reckless driver who endangered him. Whether his exact procedure was textbook perfect or not, the fact remains that Moriarty is going after him precisely because he’s an ICE agent. She’s admitted wanting to charge multiple federal immigration officers. This is the first domino she’s trying to knock down, hoping it’ll start a cascade of prosecutions against agents who dare enforce immigration law in her jurisdiction.

Traditional principles of justice demand that prosecutors approach cases without predetermined outcomes, that they follow evidence rather than agendas. But we’re watching those principles crumble in real time, replaced by a system where your job determines whether you get fair treatment. If you enforce borders, you’re a target. If you traffic drugs illegally, you deserve protection from enforcement.

The national security implications here are staggering too. When local prosecutors wage war against federal immigration enforcement, they’re not just making a statement. They’re creating chaos in the system designed to protect American citizens from foreign criminals. Every ICE agent watching this case learns a dangerous lesson: doing your job in Minnesota might land you in court defending yourself instead of prosecuting the people you arrested.

Minnesota’s justice system has become so rigged that objective outcomes seem impossible in cases like this. When the prosecutor has publicly declared her opposition to the defendant’s entire agency, how can anyone expect a fair trial? This is political persecution with a legal veneer, and it sets a precedent that should alarm everyone who values the rule of law over the rule of ideology.
