President Trump Reserved for Special Bible Passage That’s Been America’s Prayer in Crisis

President Donald Trump is set to read from 2 Chronicles 7 this week, and before you roll your eyes thinking this is just another political stunt, you should know which passage he’s reading and why it was saved specifically for him.

The reading happens as part of “America Reads the Bible,” a weeklong event that’s bringing together nearly 500 participants to read Scripture from Genesis all the way through Revelation. It’s commemorating 250 years of the Bible in America, which is the kind of milestone that flies under the radar in our current news cycle but shouldn’t. Trump’s portion wasn’t randomly assigned. Event organizer Bunni Pounds made that clear when she explained the president will read 2 Chronicles 7:11–22 because this particular passage has served as a national prayer during America’s hardest moments for decades.

You know what’s interesting? The schedule shows this reading was deliberately held as a “special guest” slot during prime evening hours on Tuesday. That’s not an accident. This passage carries weight that goes beyond typical political theater.

For those who don’t have Scripture memorized (and honestly, who does anymore), 2 Chronicles 7 contains God’s response to Solomon after the temple’s dedication. It’s where you find that famous verse about God’s people humbling themselves and praying. The passage speaks directly to national repentance and divine healing, which explains why it’s been invoked during American crises throughout our history. When the nation faced wars, economic collapse, or moral uncertainty, leaders turned to these verses.

Trump will deliver this reading from the Oval Office itself, lending presidential gravitas to what organizers clearly intend as more than a ceremonial gesture. The event also features former HUD Secretary Ben Carson and various members of Congress, creating a cross-section of leadership that spans different branches and backgrounds. Carson, incidentally, has been vocal lately about what he sees as a Gen Z church revival pushing back against secular culture. That’s not unrelated to this Bible-reading initiative.

There’s something almost defiant about organizing a nationwide Scripture reading in 2025. Our culture doesn’t exactly celebrate public displays of faith anymore, especially not from conservative political figures. The mainstream media treats religious conviction like it’s quaint at best and dangerous at worst. Yet here’s an event that unapologetically centers the Bible as foundational to American identity and history.

The timing matters too. We’re living through what many Americans perceive as a period of national uncertainty. Economic anxiety persists. Cultural divisions run deep. Foreign threats loom larger than they have in years. Reading 2 Chronicles 7 in this context isn’t subtle. It’s a direct acknowledgment that the nation needs something beyond policy solutions and political maneuvering.

Whether this event moves the needle on anything substantive remains to be seen. Cynics will dismiss it as performance. Supporters will see it as leadership grounded in faith. But the deliberate choice to have the president read this specific passage suggests organizers understand symbolism still carries power. They’re betting that Americans, or at least a significant portion of them, still recognize Scripture as relevant to national life.

That’s increasingly countercultural, which might be exactly the point.
