There’s a certain poetic justice watching the left devour itself. New Jersey’s Democratic Governor Mikie Sherrill is learning this lesson the hard way after a Soros-backed nonprofit organized protesters outside her office, accusing her of spreading “MAGA propaganda” because she hasn’t fully capitulated to their open-borders agenda. You know what? This is what happens when you feed the alligator hoping it eats you last.
The protest came courtesy of Cooper River Indivisible, which funnels donations through the Indivisible Project, a politically powerful 501(c)(4) nonprofit that’s been bankrolling Democratic politicians for years. They work hand in glove with their sister organization, Indivisible Civics. And wouldn’t you know it, the whole operation receives funding from George Soros’s Open Society Action Fund. It’s the same playbook we’ve seen a thousand times. These groups help elect Democrats, then immediately turn around and demand total submission to the most radical positions imaginable.
Sherrill’s crime? She hasn’t done enough for migrants detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement at Delaney Hall in Newark. Never mind that ICE exists to enforce laws that Congress passed and presidents signed. Never mind that these detainees are being held because they violated our immigration system. The progressive activists want Sherrill to actively obstruct federal law enforcement, and anything short of that makes her a MAGA sympathizer in their twisted worldview.
Former New York ICE removals director Tom Feeley appeared on Fox & Friends Weekend to criticize Sherrill and other officials for inflaming anti-ICE protests. He’s right to call this out. These aren’t spontaneous demonstrations of concerned citizens. They’re orchestrated pressure campaigns designed to make immigration enforcement so politically toxic that elected officials abandon the rule of law entirely.
What’s particularly rich about this situation is watching Democrats get steamrolled by the very machine they helped build. For years, the party welcomed Soros money and embraced the activist infrastructure it funded. They thought they could control it, harness it, use it to win elections and then govern as they pleased. How’s that working out? Sherrill is discovering that once you accept help from the radical left, you become their property. There’s no moderate position they’ll tolerate, no reasonable compromise they’ll accept.
The irony runs deeper still. Calling someone a MAGA sympathizer for simply allowing federal immigration enforcement to proceed is so absurd it would be funny if it weren’t so dangerous. This is how the Overton window shifts. Yesterday’s moderate Democratic position becomes today’s far-right extremism. And tomorrow? Who knows what basic governmental function will be deemed fascist.
This whole episode reveals something crucial about the modern Democratic Party. It’s not really a political party anymore in the traditional sense. It’s become a vehicle for increasingly radical activism, funded by billionaire ideologues who demand absolute fealty to open borders, defunding law enforcement, and dismantling American sovereignty. Any Democrat who steps out of line, even slightly, gets the treatment Sherrill is getting right now.
The protesters gathered outside the State House in Trenton aren’t interested in debate or persuasion. They’re there to intimidate and coerce. That’s how the game works now. And honestly, watching Democrats squirm under pressure from their own base might be satisfying if the stakes weren’t so high for the rest of us. Because when elected officials stop enforcing immigration law out of fear of left-wing activists, we all pay the price in reduced security and eroded sovereignty.
