The Left’s Latest Attack on Border Security Compares Immigration Enforcement to Terrorism

There’s a peculiar moment happening in American politics right now where enforcing immigration law has somehow become morally equivalent to terrorism. Let that sink in for a second. We’ve reached a point where a sitting member of Congress can stand before cameras and compare federal agents doing their jobs to domestic terrorists, and it barely registers as shocking anymore.

Rep. Luz Rivas of California made that exact comparison this week after touring an ICE detention facility in Dilley, Texas. Speaking in Spanish during a press conference, she declared that Americans don’t want to see their government or ICE officials acting like domestic terrorists. The daughter of Mexican immigrants, Rivas noted that her Los Angeles district experiences more ICE raids than anywhere else in her county. What she conveniently left out is why that might be the case.

This wasn’t just one rogue lawmaker going off script either. Rep. Delia Ramirez from Illinois delivered what observers called a powerful and emotional statement at a House Homeland Security Committee hearing, questioning whether any parent wouldn’t go to extreme lengths for their dying child. She went further, calling for the complete abolition of ICE and the dismantling of the Department of Homeland Security. Not reform. Not restructuring. Total elimination.

Over 110 House Democrats have now signed on to demands that the Dilley facility be shut down entirely. You know what’s interesting about that number? It represents nearly half of the Democratic caucus willing to put their names on a document that essentially argues America shouldn’t detain people who enter the country illegally. That’s not a fringe position anymore within that party. It’s becoming mainstream.

The timing here matters too. President Trump is on the verge of securing a $70 billion funding victory for ICE after the House cleared a major hurdle. While Democrats grandstand about domestic terrorism, Republicans are actually funding the enforcement mechanisms that keep communities safe. The contrast couldn’t be sharper.

Here’s what gets lost in all the theatrical outrage about detention conditions. These facilities exist because people are breaking federal law. Nobody forced anyone to cross the border illegally. Nobody made them overstay their visas. The choice to violate immigration statutes creates the need for detention facilities in the first place. Calling the agents who enforce those laws terrorists is not just absurd rhetoric. It’s dangerous.

Think about what this language does to the men and women who wear the ICE uniform every day. They’re not rounding people up for sport. They’re executing the laws that Congress itself passed. When lawmakers compare them to terrorists, they’re painting targets on the backs of federal agents who are simply doing what their job requires. That’s reckless and it’s wrong.

The broader agenda here isn’t really about one detention center in Texas. It’s about whether America will maintain any meaningful border security at all. When you strip away the emotional appeals about dying children and inhuman conditions, what you’re left with is a political movement that fundamentally rejects the concept of immigration enforcement. They want open borders without saying those exact words.

Traditional Americans understand something that these lawmakers either can’t or won’t admit. Nations have borders for reasons that matter. Sovereignty isn’t some abstract concept dreamed up by xenophobes. It’s the foundation of what makes a country a country in the first place.
