The silence is deafening, and honestly, it’s exactly what you’d expect from a party that knows it’s painted itself into a corner.
The Supreme Court ruled Tuesday that states can ban biological males from competing on girls and women’s school sports teams. It upheld laws in Idaho and West Virginia, effectively greenlit similar restrictions in 25 other states, and sent a clear message that common sense still has a place in American jurisprudence. Republicans cheered. Parents breathed sighs of relief. Young female athletes finally got some acknowledgment that their opportunities matter.
And Democrats? They went quiet.
Sure, the progressive wing couldn’t help themselves. A few predictable voices shrieked about discrimination and rolled out the usual talking points about inclusion and compassion. But here’s what’s telling: the vast majority of elected Democrats said absolutely nothing. No press releases. No impassioned floor speeches. No legislative countermeasures announced with righteous fury. Just crickets.
You know what that tells me? They know they’ve lost the American people on this one.
This isn’t complicated. Women’s sports exist because biological differences between males and females are real, measurable, and significant. Title IX was created to give young women fair opportunities to compete, earn scholarships, and build futures through athletics. Allowing biological males to compete against girls doesn’t expand opportunity. It destroys it for half the population.
The court’s decision doesn’t ban anything nationwide. States that want to continue allowing biological males in women’s sports can keep doing exactly that. But 27 states have decided otherwise, and their voters elected representatives who passed laws protecting female athletes. That’s called federalism, and it’s working exactly as designed.
Democrats find themselves trapped between their progressive base, which treats any acknowledgment of biological reality as heresy, and everyone else, including many of their own voters, who think this whole debate is insane. Polls consistently show that most Americans, across party lines, oppose allowing biological males in women’s sports. Moms and dads watching their daughters lose medals, scholarships, and roster spots to biological males aren’t buying what the activists are selling.
The political calculation here is transparent. Midterms are approaching. Democrats are already facing headwinds on the economy, immigration, and crime. The last thing they need is to plant their flag on a hill that most voters think is ridiculous. So they’re doing what politicians do when they’ve got no good options: they’re keeping their heads down and hoping the news cycle moves on.
But this cowardice comes at a cost. Young women deserve leaders willing to defend their rights, not politicians who’ll throw them under the bus when it becomes inconvenient. Traditional values, the kind that recognize basic biological truths and don’t apologize for protecting women’s spaces and opportunities, aren’t outdated. They’re foundational.
Republicans, meanwhile, are standing firm. They’re not afraid to say what everyone’s thinking: that fairness in sports matters, that women’s achievements deserve protection, and that we don’t have to pretend biology is a social construct just because activists demand it.
The Supreme Court got this one right. States have the authority to protect female athletes. And if Democrats want to spend their political capital fighting that reality, let them. The silence from most of their caucus suggests they’re smarter than that, even if they lack the courage to say so out loud.
