Vance Tells Iowa Crowd the Democrat Party Your Grandparents Knew Is Gone Forever

JD Vance stood in Iowa Friday and said what millions of Americans have been thinking for years. This isn’t your grandfather’s Democratic Party anymore. It’s not even close.

The Vice President didn’t mince words at the campaign rally, framing the upcoming midterms as a choice between common sense and what he called “pure unadulterated crazy.” And you know what? He’s not wrong. Look around. The party that once championed the working man, the party of FDR’s New Deal and JFK’s optimism, has morphed into something unrecognizable. Vance grew up hearing stories from his union steelworker father about Democrats who actually cared about people who punch a clock and get dirt under their fingernails. Those Democrats believed in building America up, not tearing it down.

Today’s version wants total transformation. Not improvement. Not reform. Complete reinvention from the ground up. That should terrify anyone who loves this country, regardless of party affiliation.

Vance pointed to congressional candidates in New York who claim July Fourth is really about liberating Palestine and Puerto Rico. Try to picture Thomas Jefferson, quill in hand, pondering the Israeli-Palestinian conflict while drafting the Declaration of Independence. It’s absurd. It would be funny if these people weren’t dead serious about rewriting American history to fit their radical worldview.

The Vice President called out what he termed two breeds of Democratic candidates. First, the “out-and-out lunatics” who openly declare American history evil and want to bulldoze everything and start over. These are the folks who see nothing worth preserving in Western civilization itself. They’ll say it right to your face at rallies and in interviews. At least they’re honest about their intentions, which is more than you can say for the second group.

That second category, according to Vance, includes the sneakier operators. They know most Americans haven’t lost their minds, so they package the same radical agenda in gentler wrapping. He specifically called out Kansas Senate candidate Adam Hamilton, a pastor who apparently spends more time preaching about white privilege than the gospel. Think about that for a second. A man of God using the pulpit not to bring people closer to Christ but to divide them along racial lines and promote political ideology.

This gets at something deeper than just campaign rhetoric. We’re watching a fundamental question play out in real time. Do we believe America, for all its flaws and complicated history, represents something worth defending? Or do we accept the premise that everything about our founding, our traditions, our civilization needs to be dismantled?

The crowd in Iowa knew exactly what Vance meant. They booed the radicals and cheered when he promised to “send the crazy packing.” These are people who still believe in individual liberty, personal responsibility, and the idea that America’s best days don’t require erasing everything that came before. They’re exhausted by being told their patriotism is problematic and their values are outdated.

Vance understands something essential that establishment Republicans often miss. Working Americans don’t want lectures about their privilege or sermons about how terrible their country is. They want leaders who actually like America, who think it’s worth preserving and improving rather than fundamentally transforming. That’s not asking for much, but apparently it’s revolutionary in current Democratic circles.

The midterms will show whether common sense still has a home in American politics or whether the radicals have successfully captured enough territory to keep pushing their agenda. Vance is betting voters will choose sanity. Given what we’re seeing from the other side, that seems like a pretty safe wager.
