Kelly Loeffler knows something Democrats would rather you forget. Small business owners don’t want handouts or empty promises. They want Washington to get out of their way.
The Small Business Administrator just dropped a number that should dominate every economic debate leading into the congressional elections: $100 billion. That’s how much support flowed to Main Street businesses for the second straight year under Trump’s policies. Not through some massive government program that requires seventeen forms and a prayer, but through loan guarantees, private investment, and the kind of deregulation that lets entrepreneurs actually do what they do best.
“What they can’t tolerate is having Washington say that they’re gonna massively regulate them, massively tax them,” Loeffler told reporters. She’s been meeting with business owners across the country, and they all tell her the same thing. They want to expand. They need skilled workers. They’re ready to invest in their communities and grow their operations. But here’s the catch: they need confidence that some bureaucrat in Washington won’t suddenly decide their success makes them a target.
You know what’s actually remarkable about this? The SBA guaranteed 62,205 loans worth $39.5 billion through its 7(a) and 504 programs in fiscal 2026 alone. That’s the third highest loan volume on record. These aren’t abstract statistics. Every single one of those loans represents a real person who took a risk, who believed in their vision enough to put everything on the line.
The timing here matters more than people realize. Both parties are fighting to convince voters they have the answer on the economy, but only one side has actual results to point to. Democrats can talk all they want about fairness and equity and making the wealthy pay their fair share. Meanwhile, Trump’s tax cuts and deregulation agenda created an environment where small businesses actually thrived instead of just survived.
There’s something almost quaint about how Democrats still think Americans are stupid enough to believe that massive tax increases won’t hurt them. They frame it as going after billionaires and corporations, but every small business owner in America knows the truth. When Washington decides it needs more revenue, it’s Main Street that gets squeezed first. It’s the family bakery, the local hardware store, the independent contractor trying to build something real.
Loeffler credits Trump’s trade policies too, which is interesting because that’s where even some Republicans got squeamish. But here’s the thing about standing firm on trade: it works when you’re negotiating from strength. Small businesses can compete with anyone in the world if the playing field isn’t rigged against them from the start.
The contrast couldn’t be starker as we head into these congressional battles. One party wants to create conditions where businesses can flourish through lower taxes, sensible regulation, and policies that reward risk and innovation. The other party sees success as something suspicious, something that probably needs to be redistributed or controlled or taxed into submission.
Business owners aren’t asking for miracles. They’re asking for predictability. They’re asking for a government that understands the difference between helping and smothering. That $100 billion figure represents what happens when Washington finally gets that message. It’s proof that conservative economic principles aren’t just theory or ideology. They’re practical solutions that create real opportunities for real people.
Democrats can keep selling their vision of a managed economy where Washington knows best. Republicans have something better: actual results and business owners who are ready to testify about what works.
