The Department of Justice, Federal Bureau of Investigation, and other agencies just announced they would be cracking down on the parents who protest against school boards and the radical left teaching of Critical Race Theory, vaccine mandates, and mask-wearing measures. The announcement comes a day after a North Carolina school board adopted a policy that would discipline or dismiss teachers for incorporating CRT into their curriculum.
Attorney General Merrick Garland sent an official letter to federal agents and FBI Director Christopher Wray announcing his measures to put together a federal task force and investigate the rise in criminal conduct towards school personnel. He said they will send agents from the criminal, civil rights, and national security divisions to handle parents who are “making threats against public service” and those who “run counter to our nation’s core values” with threats of violence, intimidation, and harassment.
Garland’s letter was sent shortly after the National School Board Association demanded President Joe Biden give them “FBI Protection” from “terrorist” and “toxic” parents that oppose masks, vaccine mandates, and CRT. According to NSBA President Viola Garcia and Interim Executive Director and CEO Chip Slaven, there has been a number of growing threats of violence and acts of intimidation occurring across the nation. They said it hindered their abilities to hold school board meetings because of outbursts from “extremist” parents over vaccine and mask mandates.
The letter pleaded with the President to put the proper “safeguards in place” but only seemed to put in the request that teachers should have security guards with them at all times. Garland has continued to classify these protests as “domestic terrorism.” When it’s a Black Lives Matter riot, it’s called “peaceful protesting for social justice.” When it is parents expressing their opinions about how kids should be taught in schools, it is “domestic terrorism.”
“Threats against public servants are not only illegal, but they also run counter to our nation’s core values. Those who dedicate their time and energy to ensuring that our children receive a proper education in a safe environment deserve to be able to do their work without fear for their safety,” Garland wrote.
While Garland never specified any credible threats, he simply cited that the FBI and U.S Attorney offices would meet in the next month to discuss strategies for addressing this “disturbing trend.” He said they will see how the agencies need to use federal enforcement tools in order to prosecute the crimes.
“In the coming days, the Department will announce a series of measures designed to address the rise in criminal conduct directed toward school personnel. Coordination and partnership with local law enforcement are critical to implementing these measures for the benefit of our nation’s nearly 14,000 public school districts,” Garland continued.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis went on to accuse Garland of “weaponizing” the Department of Justice to intimidate and silence parents. He said Garland was using the FBI to strip parents from speaking out and that Florida will continue to defend the free speech rights of its citizens and not allow federal agents to squelch dissent.
DeSantis has continued to stand and support his Florida’s Parents Bill of Rights, in which the government may not infringe upon the fundamental rights of a parent to “direct the upbringing, education, health care and mental health of a minor child.” He said he condemns any attempt by the federal government to silence free speech, as it is considered “despicable” and “anti-American.” Garland continues to call parents out for “domestic terrorism” without even being able to cite one specific example.
