New Mexico Latest State To Face Legal Action Over Race-Based COVID Treatments

Published on

An organization seeking to end the state’s controversial health care rationing policies could bring legal action against New Mexico. The organization claims to use skin color to decide whether treatment should be given.

America First Legal Fund is a conservative group that has warned New Mexico not to discriminate in COVID-19 health care.

New Mexico’s policy is not new. Minnesota, New York, as well as other states, have used the same race-based careration.

Miller said that New York had issued a decree restricting COVID medicine on the basis of race. Two people who are medically identical, but one is Caucasian would be eligible for the treatment.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention suggested that race-based rationing should be implemented earlier in the month. According to them, “Race or ethnicity may indicate other underlying conditions that could affect your health, like socioeconomic status, access to health care, and exposure to viruses associated with occupations, e.g. Frontline, critical, or essential workers.

Miller stated, “The medical establishment in the United States has adopted a variety of far-left theories.”

New Mexico Office of Health Equity is the state department that recommends and outlines health care policy.

According to the New Mexico Office of Health Equity, health equity means that all citizens have equal access to health care. ”

Miller stated that this racial health-care classification is due to a larger, interconnected problem in state bureaucracies. Miller stated the ideology and policies behind racial health care rationing were amplified within academia.

Miller stated, “The left has been making an effort over the years in concerted efforts to take up positions within bureaucracies.” Schools that produce degrees that are accepted into the bureaucracy also support these policies. They are enthusiastic enactors.

Minnesota has removed race as a preference factor for COVID-19 patients after backlash.

Star Tribune reports that after controversy, state rationing guidelines were revised to give preference to infusions for pregnant women and those with immunocompromised. It eliminated the race-based scoring system.

This move came on the heels of potential lawsuits against Minnesota, Utah and Minnesota health departments for allegedly using race and ethnicity to prioritize coronavirus treatment distribution.
