Hoyer Tells Democrats To Prepare For New COVID Relief Bill

Published on

The House of Representatives will have another chance to pass additional coronavirus relief aid as the White House considers necessary to combat the pandemic. Steny Hoyer, D-Md. House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) said Friday that Democrats should “be ready to consider a supplement bill to our continued response to the COVID-19 pandemic.” ”

Hoyer wrote to Democrats: “The House will act upon this crucial priority as soon we receive a bill form the Senate.

Congress is facing more opposition to funding coronaviruses.

The bipartisan congressional leaders reached a $15.6 billion agreement to provide additional assistance to prepare for the next virus variant and improve vaccine and therapeutic capability.

Nancy Pelosi, House Speaker (D-Calif.), had to remove the COVID-19 aid package from the $1.5 Trillion larger Omnibus legislation. Many Democrats were dissatisfied with the spending offsets requested by Republicans to reduce coronavirus assistance to certain states.

The Senate must approve the spending bill with 60 votes to pass. This is possible only with the support of the GOP.

The COVID-19 assistance was rejected earlier this month. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D.N.Y.), has been working with Senator Mitt Obama (R.Utah) in an effort to find a solution. But, there has not been a deal.

Schumer said Tuesday that they are trying to get COVID relief. “I’m working with Sen. Romney and other Republicans to find some pay-fors that are acceptable for Democrats in Congress. We hope it will happen.
