According to the FBI, four Americans were driving from Texas to the U.S. Mexico border when they were fired upon, held at gunpoint, and possibly kidnapped.

Chief of the FBI’s San Antonio Division is Special Agent Oliver Rich. He announced that the FBI will seek public assistance to locate four U.S. citizens who were last seen at Matamoros (Tamagas), Mexico’s border.

They were reported missing Friday, March 3rd.

Four Americans drove a white minivan with North Carolina plates to cross into Mexico on that day. According to the FBI, all four Americans were placed in a vehicle before being taken away by armed men.

Matamoros is located just across the border to Brownsville, Texas at the U.S.–Mexico border.

Federal partners and the FBI are supporting victims’ searches.

Matamoros is known for its warring factions in the Gulf drug cartel. The violence on Friday was so intense that the U.S. Consulate issued an alert.

The Tamaulipas State Police stated that several people were injured or died on the same day but did not give any details.

The FBI offered $50,000 to ensure the safe return of Americans, and their arrests.
