Joy Behar Is Still Mocking Kamala Harris’ Stance on Codifying Roe v. Wade

The co-hosts on “The View” vented frustration a full year after the historic overturning of Roe v. Wade. They recalled their fury that day and even criticized Democrats for not codifying federal abortion rights.

The hosts of the show were on their way to The Bahamas last year when they heard that the Supreme Court had overturned the decision regarding abortion rights. Joy Behar, the co-host at the time, said she wanted someone to be thrown out of the plane.

“Remember how angry we were?” She asked.

“It was just so shocking. I don’t think anyone imagined that the Supreme Court would overturn really a privacy right because we have privacy via the Constitution,” co-host Sunny Hostin said.

The show showed a clip from MSNBC of Vice President Kamala Haris, who has become the face of the Biden administration’s abortion rights campaign in the wake of Roe’s overturn. She discussed how this issue had galvanized women in red states, and that Congress could legislate the “privacy” right.

Behar was not impressed. She said, “It turns out that Democrats missed the opportunity to codify Roe v. Wade over the last few decades. They dropped the ball when Bill Clinton had the majority in Congress and in 2009, under [Barack] Obama…What makes her believe this will happen now?”

Hostin thought Harris was using the issue to galvanize voters. In the 2022 midterm elections, Democrats performed better than expected. They gained a Senate Seat and their House losses were much smaller than predicted. With Republicans controlling the House, an abortion bill is unlikely to pass before the next elections.

Hostin argued that conservative Supreme Court nominees in the past “swore an oath” pledging to respect Roe V. Wade, a “super precedence,” but hadn’t kept it.

Alyssa Griffin, co-host, said that Democrats have an obligation to meet Republicans who are “of goodwill” in the middle. This is because the majority of Americans do not support abortion on demand but also don’t oppose it completely.

Ana Navarro (a Republican who hates Republicans) said that it is wrong to blame Democrats for the current state of abortion rights. She added, “The people who are directly responsible for where are we now are the Republicans.”

She said, “I believe everyone had let down their guard.”

Sara Haines, co-host of the show, said that she was furious at all politicians.

She said, “Definitely the right and far religious right kept us here.” “They’re those who fought for it for years and many years. But my frustration is that I think all politicians placed this on the ballot in order to weaponize the other side and the other viewpoint, and never solved the problem for the people. This is what really irritates me — it makes me very upset.”

Behar concluded the panel by warning Republicans that “We are going to vote, aren’t we?”
